Be Aware of Danger

Now that we have covered the health effects of being overweight and the major causes of obesity and you have a better understanding of the lifelong consequences it is important that we discuss the dangerous traps that you can fall into in your quest to lose weight. I want to encourage you to shed those extra pounds, but I want you to do it in such a way that will not cause a whole new set of health problems for yourself. So before we move on to providing you with sound advice for healthy and natural weight loss methods, we want you to know about the pitfalls you should avoid that presented to us by the media, manufacturers of weight loss pills, trendy diets, and the so called definition of the perfect woman.

Teen Idols, Movie Stars and Models

Unfortunately our society puts an enormous emphasis on movie stars and models. They are often glorified and viewed as being the epitome of perfection. Teenage girls look up to these women and in many cases want to look just like them. Why, because that is what the media and Hollywood portrays as beauty. The fact is that most of these actresses and models have to take extreme measures to maintain their skin and bone look and their weight is unhealthy in the opposite direction (underweight). There is such extreme pressure put on them to be skinny that they are apt to develop eating disorders which in no way contribute to a healthy lifestyle.

Basically, I want you realize that these stars are people just like you and me. They have faults and weaknesses and do not always make the best decisions. Just because they are in the spotlight and have “celebrity” status does not make them any better than the average person. The things that they say and do should not be taken for gospel and you need to be careful of the lure of trying to emulate them.

In no way do I want to indicate that they are bad people and that every celebrity out there isn’t living right or is unhealthy, just remember they have expectations imposed on them in order to maintain their status that we should not be imposing on ourselves. We may admire their work and enjoy their entertainment but in my opinion there is not a person out there that is worthy of idolization.
